The ugly politics of America has left me wondering about the future of this country. I recently pondered whether America will ever truly get beyond the politics of racism, sexism, and ageism. So many Whites say that don't trust Obama (but they trust Bush). Women are crying foul about the way the media has covered, or not covered Hillary Clinton. The youth of America cannot identify with McCain. What has upset me about this whole thing is that we really have not dealt with substantive issues. America wants to end the war and we all know that. I would prefer to hear about how each candidate feels about terms limits, welfare reform, church reform (too much money going to churches that is unregulated), R&D for alternatives to oil, and an explanation for America's foreign policy in the Middle East. I would also be interested in hearing how all of these topics might be tied to greater prosperity for all Americans. Leave the fear mongering, race baiting, sexism, and ageism alone. Talk about some real issues.

How well Obama can run the country is how well we are active in our governmental process. It means we have to be active voices. To be active means to be informed of pending legislation, knowing our Senators, congress people, legislators. It also means knowing what is coming up for vote in the House, the Senate and the Congress. This is done my using links from sites such as Amnesty International, ACLU and get on the news letter list from congress at congressorg@capwiz.com,
We are all in this together and together we can get Obama elected and support him in being active in getting our constitution back.
Thanks for a provocative posting.
One has to learn to keep his or her eyes on the ball. The corporate media are throwing so many curve balls alternating with fast balls that it is likely the voters will strike out. The powers that be don't want the voters to discuss the real issues facing this country, Instead, they want the voters to be concerned about flag lapel pins, the names of the candidates, and other such inane things.

You were on a roll there. McCain is not a bad guy at all. Obama has much to prove, but Bush set the bar so low that an apple might make a better president.
As always, you cut right to the chase. And I concur 100%. I really would like some meat to go with all those potatoes being hurled.
I'm just thankful my brother is home & out. I pray for the other soldiers still there & their families.
I understand your point of view. I am against the war and anyone who chooses to prolong it. So McCain, as honorable as he is, will not get my vote. I think the whole country is suffering terribly as a result of continuting to be there while we pay all the bills. Most of all, I do not want one more American to die.........As for Osama, whatever he gets, he deserves.
I was just dropping by to check out blogs I hadn't visited for awhile. Imagine my pleasant surprise to see you've been back here.
Once again, you cut to the heart of the campaign nightmare we have endured these many months.
It would be nice to hear some ideas coming from any of the candidates about any or all the issues you mentioned. But that might reveal if they are going to try and change things or mire us deeper than ever in the status quo.
Here's my take so far:
Obama has my vote unless he does something so off the wall or out of character for him. Eloquent speaker. Inexperienced in comparison to the others but put together a strong organization to make him the man to beat.
McCain. I really do like McCain. His stance on the war (though I'm not as antiwar as some of us on the Stream) hurts him. Even more than that issue is his seeming willingness to continue some if not most of George's policies. I'd vote for him if Hillary pulls a rabbit out of the hat and secures the Democratic nomination.
Hillary. While she might make a good president, her entire political career seems to have more than a few scandals in it ranging from Whitewater to Vincent Foster's suicide(?) to putting up with Bill's impropieties to allowing him to seemingly sabatoge her campaign at times.
I decided alonnnggg time ago...I would never vote for another Clinton
or Bush. Thanks again for a thought provoking post.
I encourage all to vote for what they believe in, not who they believe in. I think it works out better if their issues are your issues. Problem this time, is that I have heard very little talk about issues and many appeals to get votes. I want to know what they really think, not what their advisors have told them to say.
I have to say that I am in agreement.

By the way, Good Post. I feel the same way. I have yet to hear what they are going to do for Americans, should they have a chance to SERVE!!!
Incidentally, I saw your comment on that blog HOW DO THEY SLEEP AT NIGHT and was more than a little surprised (and pleased) that its author hadn't yet caught it and deleted it.
