As a college administrator, it angers and saddens me that two defenseless women trying to get an education could be randomly chosen and murdered. As an African American male, it infuriates me that young African American males would be the perpetrators of such cowardly acts. My heart goes out to the families who will never see their daughter's smile or hear their voices again. While I am a compassionate man, I believe that the death penalty is in order should the courts determine that these young men were the actual killers. It will not bring the young women back, but it will at least put a few cold blood killers permanently out of commission.

New Subject: my dad was the most compassionate man but he had a streak in him...when it came to the death penalty, he once (kiddingly???) told me that if he were king of the world, he'd have these vans drive around and in cases where there is NO doubt NO doubt AT ALL about someone's guilt, he'd take the criminal into the van, strap him up and kill him there and then! (sounds like something out of an Orwell or Asimov story! YIKES!)
He also once said there should be electric BENCHES..not chairs!
WOW dad...!
O.k., so with that being said!!....
My heart goes out to the families ...I have daughters around that age myself. If you were to ask me what one thing strikes absolute fear and dread in my heart....what one thing would drive me over the edge...ANYTHING happening to my children....and something like that?
Not enough love given as children...just not enough love in the world.

Your dad sounds like a very wise man. It is shameful what happened to those two young women. What is even worse is that for quite some time, young black men will be judged and feared because of the acts of these two (or three). No parent should have to bury their children. Its just seems like the grief would be overwhelming.

Sad, but this is true. In a way, it already is that way....
It's gotten to the point now that one should fear ALL.
PS. You are right about what you said but I always remind myself that we are all sinners, no matter what color we are.
The times we live in remind me of the old Charles Dickens lead in, "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." I pray for a safer America for our children's sake.
Its good to have another cyberconversation with you. I pray for all the families involved, but moreso for the ones that lost a daughter.
I hope you are having a marvelous Spring!
You know, I read a book recently that said that the death penalty didn't really serve as a deterrent ... It said that killing someone who has killed doesn't do anything but make the system guilty of murder too.
I don't know the answer, but I wondered about a thing I never really thought much about before that.
Good to see you!
Huggggggggggggggggggggz,
Taylor
I consider death as aneasy way out "compared to" a life of hard time.
I see the justice only in a long/large serving of "hard time"!
I see the death penalty as a "Get out of jail free card"....
From the looks of your post dates you get around here as much as I do. I'm amazed at the numbers of people who hang on this stuff day/month/year in, day/month/year out.
Getting to your point I agree about the male part but maybe not so much as to the black part. Personally I have been embarassed many times just because I'm male. Men do such horrific things.
Think of the most unimagineable and senseless killings...95% of the time it's a male. The rapes, the molests, all us.
Now, my friend, think on my postulate a while: I think the violent tendencies found in men is somehow related to the trauma associated with circumcision.
As an undergrad I used to think about writing a doctoral thesis focusing on circumcised v. uncircumcised vis-a-vis violent male crime. I settled for the Bachelors' and the thought went away over time.
So instead of wasting your time thinking about how THE OSU can beat any SEC team think about that newborn cut that has to hurt.
See you in a few months.
