 NEW DIRECTION
Back to Full Blog

I sincerely hope it is the right one. Today I voted for some democrats and some republicans. Lets hope Americans get back to issues instead of partisanship. No one should gloat, there is a long hard road ahead to govern....not to legislate morality....but to extend fairness and opportunity to every man and woman.

Art,
Likewise I've voted for some democrats and some republicans. Hopefully, the status quo will be shaken up enough so that both parties move away from extremism to a more moderate common sense aproach.

Caught Obama being interviewed on NBC...the more I see of him the more I can honestly say I would vote for him for President...Hopefully, he will run...

Its time for change. Rumsfeld is out and maybe this whole war strategy will change.

Wayf,

I hope the congress and the president will do their jobs and put the best interest of all americans at the forefront of all they do. I remain very hopeful.

Bookworm,

I like Obama too, but I think McCain and Hillary are ahead of the line with more experience. He might be a good VP candidate.

Miss Lou,

It was hard to stay away on this one. I think most know how much I love politics. I am genuinely concerned about our country and helping others. We will definitely have change. I just hope its the right kind. But anything other than what we had is a welcomed alternative. Did you notice the gas prices went up again.

Whit,

What's shaking buddy. I thought about you last evening as I sat before the television for hours. I remember your post WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER. You were certainly on the money. Bush worked in a bipartisan way in Texas and I was hopeful when he was elected. He let me down. Perhaps now he will remember why he was drafted by his party.

I totally agree about the fairness thing. I grew up poor and was poised to go to school free being a foster child when the Regan/Bush administration cut college funds for orphans and big business got all their perks. Paying back a student loan on a few bucks an hour ended up costing me 80K for an AA by the time I paid interest. College tuition has skyrocketed and the small pell grant no longer even comes close to a year of college. These guys making all these policies live at home until their late 20s or 30s and step out into the world on "their own" with a PhD right into a six-figure income. They have no clue how much harder it is for the rest of us.

I just read "confessions of an economic hitman" and it left me feeling hopeless. All that matters to those in power is greed, greed, greed, and equality and fairness doesn't profit them. They feel entitled to their superior position as if they are above the rest of us occupying the huddled masses working our lives away earning them their profits for a few bucks an hour. They are the plantation masters and they view the rest of us as less than equal. It is their manifest destiny to exploit the masses and gobble up everything for themselves.

I think the drop in gas prices just before elections was soo, soo obvious that it probably pissed people off and they would have been better just leaving it high.

My idea for reformation is: No president or elected official shall hold office while maintaining a personal economic interest in a foreign nation.

Before entering office they would have to sell off their foreign interests and cash out.

Declaring war so Haliburton can get a big contract and they can make millions! Isn't that a conflict of interest???? Wouldn't a judge have to excuse himself from a case if he owned stock in a company that was being sued as a conflict of interest?

Janine

I really do hope there will be a different tone in Washington. I dont expect gridlock, but I do expect a great deal of compromising. Lets see if the Dems cave in to big business. I hope they will not. The little man and woman have gotten the shaft lately. And you are right. Haliburton has lined its pockets because of this war.

Lets hope we did but probably not if you are not in my state of Ohio. I think its smart to vote on the issues instead of party line.

Good to see you back Art! Frankly, I've been so disappointed in the last couple of elections, that I don't know if I have much hope left for things to get any better any time soon! It seems that these days it's more choosing the "lesser of two evils" when it comes to elected officials.
